Tracy Brewer, Nederland. A great soccer season was capped by a great end-of-the-year soccer tournament. Nederland Peak to Peak (P2P) Soccer for Youth finished its 16th season with sunny skies and brisk Nederland winds. After last year’s floods and subsequent cancelled practices and games, this year was ideal for kids and parents to enjoy some outdoor exercise in mild temperatures over the six-week season.
About 120 kids participated this year, including almost one-third of the elementary school students. Youth from kindergarten to sixth grade and aged 5-11 were invited to join. Six games were played between three mountain leagues, pulling players from Gilpin County, Clear Creek County (Idaho Springs), and Nederland.
Nederland traditionally has the largest number of players, with 2-3 teams forming for each of three age levels. This year’s roster was one of the largest, with three full teams at each age level.
P2P 's volunteers and parents provide everything from coaching and snacks to field lining, refereeing, concessions, and overall coordination. This community consistently steps up and all the jobs get completed. This year, with concessions provided by players and their families, the league gained over $300, which will go toward players who need scholarships next year.
P2P operates under the umbrella of TEENs, Inc., which oversees the finances and insurance. The staff also manages the online payments for registrations and is a central location for parents to register and for equipment storage. This connection is a key component in the successful operation of the league.
Registration for next year’s season will begin in early June, 2015, and continue through the end of July.
