On July 2, a Nederland Police officer responded to a reported burglary in process. When they arrived at the address there was no indication of forced entry. Shortly afterward, the maintenance man arrived saying he was painting the building. He said he entered the building in the morning and discovered someone's possessions. The officer secured a lap top computer, a pair of pants and a jacket. He also found a large plastic bag containing marijuana. The officer determined that the suspect had entered through an unlocked window.

He told the maintenance man to secure the window and leave a note saying the NPD has the belongings. Later the suspect came to the police department saying there was a misunderstanding, saying he had an agreement with the owner of the building to rent the space.

The owner said the man was not authorized to be there, that he was not permitted on the property, but criminal intent would be difficult to prove. The officer confiscated the bag of pot to be destroyed, but said there was no probable cause for criminal charges concerning the marijuana. No charges were filed.

On July 3, the Nederland Police Department was informed that someone was putting up blockades on East Third Street. It turned out that town employees had set them near there for the Fourth of July parade the next day, but someone kept putting them in the road. Each time someone complained town employees had to move the barricades off the road.

During the investigation, a Ned officer saw a male moving the barricades across the road and asked him why he was doing this and the man replied he thought they were supposed to be there and he had moved them into the road several times during the day. The officer arrested the man for Obstructing a Highway or Passageway and transported him to the Boulder County Jail.

On July 3, around 12:30 p.m. the NPD received a report of an assault in progress. When the officer arrived he saw a man bleeding from the right side of his face. The man said he had been hit with glass and the officer found the bottom of a beer glass in the road. The victim appeared to be intoxicated and said the suspect was high on drugs and had needles coming out of his arms. The victim was transported to Boulder County Hospital.

A Boulder County deputy found the suspect on Magnolia Rd. and told him and his girlfriend to return to Nederland. They learned there was a protection order violation and two warrants against the man. He said the victim provoked him into a fight. The suspect was placed into custody and transported to the NPD and then to the Boulder County Jail. He was charged with Assault in the Second Degree, Violation of a protection order, Domestic Violence, and Failure to Comply.

On July 12, there was a report of a domestic violence resulting in a broken window. Officers talked to a male sitting in front of the door who had blood all over his right hand. The man's girlfriend came out and said the suspect had been drinking and passed out. When he woke up he went out to drink some more and when he came home he was even more intoxicated. She told him to leave. She packed up his belongings and set them outside.. He broke the window in the outside door to her  bedroom.

The woman's daughter was outside at the time. The suspect was arrested and transported to Boulder County Jail, charged with Criminal Mischief and Domestic Violence.

On July 14, an officer was sent to First Street on a welfare check of an adult male standing on a picnic bench, naked from the waste up and in a pair of red boxer-type underwear. The man said he was changing into his shorts. The officer told him that changing clothes in public was illegal. The officer intended to issue a verbal warning if the man moved on.

The suspect then yelled obscenities at the officer, waved his arms and walked away, making irrational statements relating to Scientology and speaking to people who weren't there. The officer told him he was under arrest for public indecency and unlawful conduct and the suspect refused to comply with the officer’s demands. After being handcuffed, he continued to yell obscenities and gyrated his head in a circular motion. He was verbally abusive on the way to the jail. He was charged with public indecency and unlawful conduct.

On July 16, a man came into the NPD saying there was a man walking on the road who was breathing heavy and had his hands clenched.  When officers contacted the man he said he had Crohn’s disease, that he did not need medical attention. When his identification was checked, he had two Failure to Appear warrants. He was placed into custody and transported to the Boulder County Jail.

On July 18, a hit and run accident was reported. The suspect vehicle was a white Saab convertible with Massachusetts plates that was last seen heading down the canyon. The victim said she didn't care because her car was a piece of junk and didn't want to pursue the incident because there was little damage. She said good night and got in her car and left.

On July 18, a resident reported that a bike had been stolen from his home. He said he rides the bike to work every day. When he got home he put the bike on his rack around 5:15 and when he came home from dinner, around 9: 45 p.m., the bike was gone. The bike is a 1988 black and green Cannondale with two water bottle holders and duct tape on the top frame holding the cables. The bike was not seen around town.

On July 24, a Ned officer and a trainee were sent to Magnolia Road and the Peak to Peak Highway for an accident. A Subaru station wagon was found, having hit a tree head on. There were no people at the scene. The officers put a caution tape on the vehicle. Later, the NPD officers were sent to a Nederland address on a report of a stolen vehicle.  The description matched that of the crashed Subaru. The deputy asked the woman if she had crashed the car and she yelled that it had been stolen.

The officers met State Patrol at the scene of the accident and the trooper said someone very short had been driving the car. There were also small Birkenstock shoe footprints. The car was going about 35 mph when it hit a washboard turn and lost control. The car was impounded and the trooper interviewed the woman and the man she was with called him and the Ned officer, "Pigs."

He said the woman's son could have taken the vehicle, but the son was in bed at the time. On July 26, a woman reported that she had seen the vehicle crashed into the tree and walked around it to make sure no one was hurt. She had been wearing Birkenstock shoes. Later that day, another woman walked into the NPD saying a man at the camp was bragging about trying to steal vehicles in Boulder. The man came to the campsite with items he was trying to sell or trade. She wanted the police to be aware that he was stealing from people.

The officers went to Gordon Gulch campground north of Nederland to look for them. One camper described the tent the suspect was staying in. The tent was found but not the man. Later it appeared that a bear had gone through the food. The case is open until further investigation and follow up.

On July 26, a man reported that he had been away for six weeks and when he came home, he saw his house had been broken into. Cabinets and cupboards were opened, a blanket to protect plumbing was moved and a Burger King wrapper that did not belong to the owner was found on the toilet tank. The property management company was notified. There are no leads or suspects.

On July 21, Boulder Dispatch called the NPD, saying a man called to report that a house guest may be breaking windows and setting the house on fire. When the officer arrived, he saw the sliding door window was smashed. The woman admitted breaking it, saying she was scared. A rock had been thrown from the outside and broke a vase and a plate on a table inside. The act was obviously intentional. The officer said it appeared the woman was from New York and had been flown out to Colorado for a romantic relationship. The owner declined to pursue charges for Criminal Mischief.

On July 22, an officer responded to a report that a woman had just been assaulted at a bar and the male suspect had driven away, hitting her boyfriend's car as he left. The boyfriend said the suspect tried to hit him but he jumped onto a car and pulled his knees up. He said his legs were almost crushed.

The assault occurred after the woman ignored him when he spoke to her and her girlfriend. He swore and shoved her, and then hit her with his elbow on her cheek. Momentum caused the suspect to fall onto the woman and they both landed on a table before they fell to the ground and were separated. Witnesses corroborated the assault and said the suspect was too drunk to be driving.

A BOLO aired to all Boulder County Law Enforcement agencies to watch for a blue Honda hatchback. The car was stopped at Third Street and Canyon and the suspect was taken into custody. The officer watched the truck leave, assuming the older female was driving. He followed for two miles and saw the truck drift in the lane. The officer pulled the truck over and asked the woman to perform roadside maneuvers. She failed the test and when a breath sample resulted in a PBT of .235. The woman was charged with DUI, DUI Per Se and Lane Usage.

On July 28, the NPD was dispatched to a 911 hangup call. When the officer arrived, he met a man who said there was white powder all over place and that he believed his wife was responsible for it. He thought it could be poisonous. There was an active restraining order against the man, his wife being the protected person.

The NPD learned that woman was a victim of Domestic Violence that had occurred at another residence. She said she was living in Boulder now. She thought the man had left the residence and she came to the house get her belongings. She had not entered the house illegally. There were no charges.
