Paul Carrill, Nederland Police Chief. The Nederland Police Department will again be participating in the Ninth National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day for Saturday, September 27, 2014. This initiative provides an opportunity for the public to turn in their accumulated prescription-medications to law enforcement officers for proper disposal. The Nederland Police Department will be providing personnel and storage to accept prescription-medications for proper disposal. The Nederland Police Department will work with the DEA for the proper disposal of the collected drugs.

During our April 2014 collection, nationwide, 780,158 pounds (390 tons) of prescription medications were collected at 6,072 collection sites manned by 4,423 state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies that partnered with DEA on the event. Within the Denver Field Division, 31,500 pounds (15.75 tons) of  prescription drugs were collected at 256 collection sites manned by 203 state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies in the division’s four states of Colorado, Montana, Utah, and Wyoming. When added to the collections from the Division’s previous Take-Back Days, more than 189,973 pounds (94.98 tons) of prescription medication have been removed from circulation.
