Plant that Bluegrass Vibe
Tom Plant, a longtime local who now lives in Salida, is coming back in the form of GC/DC. The “G” stands for grass in bluegrass, and Tom assembled this band to play mountain music and old time fiddle tunes to appreciative audiences around Colorado. Tom plays the banjo, along with Steve Remmert (mandolin), Katy Buckbee (fiddle), and Scott Midler (guitar).
Remmert and Buckbee also collaborate in “The Road West” band. As Winner of the Colorado State Fiddle Championship in 2013, Buckbee’s fiddle skills are enough to draw your attention and respect. Remmert writes original catchy songs that GC/DC will perform, and you will remember.
When Tom struts his stuff in Salida, he plays banjo in “Ragged Mountain Bluegrass” there. That band was founded by Bruce Hayes, who happened to be the first performer at the Acoustic Coffeehouse that Tom and his wife Dawn Dennison started in Nederland back in 1994. It’s just a big old circle of strumming and smiling to the content of music lovers throughout Colorado.
GC/DC performs at Salto on Friday, February 21, 2020, 5 - 7 p.m., for a Tap Takeover with Avery Brewing Co.
