GOLDEN GATE CANYON - The Golden Gate Canyon Grange hosted their annual Trunk or Treat Halloween celebration on October 27, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Cars and trucks lined up in the Grange parking lot, all decorated for Halloween, as owners handed out candy to children who all wore their Halloween costumes.
Jessica Swanson, who has organized the event since 2020 with Grange President Terri Costeldia, said that the last time they had the event about 90 kids came. Last year the event was snowed out. This is the first year the fire trucks attended. The event involves all volunteers, giving out treats from the trunk of a car or the bed of a truck. “You can’t go door to door up here,” Swanson said.
Kids and adults arrived in all manner of costumes, from butterflies and vampires to the wavy guy at businesses. Toby Craft, in his first year, brought his decorated truck with a ramp for kids to climb. He brought kids Quinn and Locke. Patrick and Jeffrey McCoy dressed as aliens, and two-year-old Tui Wotring dressed as a butterfly. Swanson had a popular fortune teller booth.
Firefighters had a table behind the fire truck, with firefighter Sam Patton and firefighter spouse Liz Phillips. Fire Chief Kyle Benson brought his two children, Graham and Holden Kociemba-Benson.
The Grange will host a wreath-making event on Saturday, December 7, from 10 a.m. to noon. The Grange will supply native grass greens and other supplies to make beautiful wreaths. The Grange is located at 25231 Golden Gate Canyon Rd, Golden. For more information, go to https:/www.goldengategrange.com.
