Gilpin Extension workshop on radon, wells, and septic

Jennifer Cook, Gilpin County’s Extension Director and Agent, has announced an important workshop for Gilpin residents.

The Radon, Well, and Septic Workshop will be held on March 21 from 6:30 – 7:50 p.m. at the Gilpin Library (15131 Hwy 119). You may attend in person or virtually.

Gilpin County has the 4th highest radon levels in the state. At this workshop, mountain home owners will learn about radon, septic systems, and well maintenance. Participants will learn about radon, and how to test and mitigate homes. Presenters will discuss easy tips to maintain well and septic systems to reduce the need for maintenance and protect environmental and personal health.

Presenters include Jennifer Cook on radon, as well as Alisa Witt and Kelvin Decker of Gilpin Public Health, on wells and septic respectively.

Cook also points to an upcoming Webinar on March 15 regarding Avian Influenza offered by Colorado Parks and Wildlife and Colorado State University. It is an opportunity to learn more about avian influenza and how to help prevent the spread of the virus.
