COAL CREEK CANYON - The Colorado Division of Oil and Public Safety (OPS) found water in the premium gas at KB Gas and Food, 30520 Highway 72. The store is in Coal Creek Canyon.
The store is under new ownership and has changed its name from Kwik Mart to KB Gas and Food. They sell gas from Sinclair Oil, which has gas stations throughout the United States.
Many messages on Facebook allege that in early November people got bad gas at the store. After filling up, cars and other gasoline-run equipment would not start. Some vehicles had to be towed to mechanics.
One of the new owners of KB Gas and Food, Gourav Kumar, said they have sent samples in for testing. They are still selling regular unleaded gas.
A spokesperson for the Division of Oil and Public Safety (OPS) said: “On the evening of November 12, 2024, OPS received a complaint via email about potential water in the fuel being sold at KB Gas and Food at 30520 Highway 72 in Golden. On November 13, 2024, an OPS Inspector found two inches of water in the premium unleaded tank and two violations that may have enabled water to enter the tank.
“Premium and mid-grade unleaded were taken off sale (mid-grade because it is blended at the dispenser from regular and premium) and should remain off sale until OPS verifies the problem has been corrected and analyzes another round of samples,” OPS stated.
OPS received three complaints about this issue and has notified all three consumers of the results and provided contact information for the facility operator. For more information about OPS go to www.colorado.gov/cdle.
