The fifth grade class at Nederland Elementary School (NES) had their continuation ceremony on May 24. This is a time of celebration and transition. In Nederland when you finish fifth grade you have to move to a different building. Elementary school comes to an end. Next comes middle school.

To celebrate these students who have completed their elementary school years, first Nederland Elementary Principal Caleb Melamed welcomed the families in attendance. Then many students chose to present a poem or a short essay about their time at NES. Before receiving their certificates the fifth grade teachers, Corrie Beauvineau and Danielle Andrews, read an original Haiku about each of their students.

The fifth graders then sang “When I Grow Up” from Matilda the Musical. They were directed by music teacher Alison Bagli and accompanied by fifth grade student Yisrael Hirsch on piano.

The continuation ceremony ended with the fifth graders singing the first part of “Celebration” by Kool & the Gang. As the song continued on the speakers the kids ran off the stage and they danced on the gymnasium floor.

Let’s all celebrate Nederland Elementary’s fifth graders…Olivia, Alder, Corbin, Jackson, Luke, Elizabeth, Flynn, Ayla, Michael, Ciel, Anne, Max, Archer, Finnegan, Elise, Annabella, Ziylah, Shameus, Miles, Leo, Wyatt, Shayna, Finn, Nora, Penelope, Emery, Skyler, Yisrael, Camille, Emmeline, and Annabelle.

Good luck in middle school!
