After work
after the grocery store
in traffic in the car
on the way to my lover’s house

the last of the daylight
falling through cotton clouds
the last of the summer breeze
on my arm on the windowsill
and the promise
of a spot on the couch
beside the love of my life
where we will eat ice cream
and watch
something dumb on tv
our bodies touching
the heat between us
the warmest thing in the world
