Police Reports: Human remains found at Twin Sisters

Posted

John Scarffe, Boulder County. Two helpers at the B Bar S Ranch, 282 Twin Sisters Road in Nederland, were working with Ranch owners on cleaning a rarely used area of the ranch. The two workers asked if they could see if the pond below where they working had any fish, and they were allowed to explore.

They grabbed their fishing poles and headed down to the pond, but they came right back up. They had found the remains of a dead body in the pond.

Marianne Stilson with the ranch said they immediately called 911, and the Sheriff arrived at 1 p.m. along with Boulder County Detective JoAnne Compton and several others.

“They of course hauled the body to the coroner right away, and Compton and the deputy sheriff described how the body was in the water,” Stilson said.  He was in a pair of briefs and his knees were down in the water so they were fairly preserved, but the part out of the water was found by predators.

He had some hair remaining and a goatee, and his eyes were still there with teeth and skin on his face. Stilson said it has been two months or more since they went down there and weren’t checking or suspecting anything unusual.

A neighbor two months ago found a backpack in their driveway, and the sheriff didn’t open it but took it to the family in Denver, who said those are the clothes of the man whose body was found. Nobody else had seen anything, Stilson said.

The pond is probably less than a quarter mile from the ranch house, but it is not an easy walking distance, Stilson said. The investigators of the remains had to go away for permission for divers in the pond, and they decided to investigate the total circumference of the meadow.

“They were here at 8 a.m. this morning, Stilson said about June 26, 2019. Seven vehicles and rescue vehicles showed up on Twin Sisters Road.

Meanwhile, on June 19, the Boulder County Coroner’s Office has identified human remains found in an open area near 282 Twin Sisters Road in Nederland as Marcos Torres-Zamarron, 23, of Denver, according to a news release from the Boulder County Coroner’s Office.

Torres-Zamarron’s death is under investigation by the coroner’s office. An examination has been completed and the cause and manner of death are pending.

The B Bar S Ranch is a family-owned and operated beef cattle ranching operation with two Colorado locations in the scenic Front Range area of the Rocky Mountains, according to its website. “Our high mountain pasture in Nederland, Colorado, has been family-owned since 1965.”

Rock climbing fatality at Boulder Falls.

Deputy Richard Peebles, Boulder County. On Friday, June 28, 2019, at 6:25 p.m. the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a climber who had fallen in the area of Boulder Falls. The extent of injuries was unknown at the time.

The initial report was made by a party not on scene at the time of the incident. Once first responders arrived it took rescuers about 20 minutes to locate the fallen climber. The climber was located above Boulder Falls and was unconscious. Medical personnel immediately began administering first aid, however, due to extensive injuries these efforts were not successful and the climber was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Unit was assisted in the rescue by the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, Sugarloaf Fire, and American Medical Response (AMR).

Due to the weather in the area and the onset of darkness recovery efforts were suspended until the morning of June 29, 2019. The Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Unit and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group were assisted by the Boulder Emergency Squad and the Alpine Rescue Team out of Jefferson County when they resumed the recovery operation.

The death investigation is being conducted by the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and the Boulder County Coroner’s Office. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.
