Peak Perspectives Remembering Chip

Posted

A man of character. A man dedicated to his family and community. Hearing about the loss of our friend Chip Smith weighs heavy on our hearts. The memories of our time with Chip will always be a part of our lives.

How wonderful it was to work with Chip at The Mountain-Ear! And if we saw each other at the Post Office or the grocery store our conversations were always filled with kindness talking about our families, music, his latest theater project, or Timberline. He always had a great story or asked a thoughtful question. He showed he cared.

He loved showing my kids the old Timberline fire truck. And my kids loved sitting in the driver's seat.

My greatest memory with Chip was when I interviewed him and Donna for a Valentine’s Day article. They shared their story with me. It was beautiful to see them remembering all their years together.

Chip was a loyal and trustworthy friend to so many. I am so pleased our paths crossed.

Chip was one of the most amazing men I’ve ever known. He worked hard on circulation for almost a decade. He’d pick up papers in Boulder, bring them up for inserts, labels and then take them to the post office. That was just the start. He delivered the papers across the region and spent time talking to many people that appreciated his warm smile, his sense of humor and his insatiable sweet tooth that had him stopping in for treats at all of our local restaurants.

More than that, Chip was a friend. A solid, you can count on me, friend. He’d show up at our house because I said I needed a branch trimmed or a tree removed. He made everything happen in moments. He carried a dog past a sleeping moose, so I could get out of the yard. He showed up when my husband had a stroke and gently guided me on next steps and what I should focus on.

Chip was a compassionate, caring, incredibly amazing man and we will miss him dearly.
