This week my heart is full with thoughts of spending time with those I love for the holidays. Even though I won’t get to see most of my family, I will see a few of them.
Our holiday traditions have changed a lot in the last couple of years. We plan to have smaller gatherings, with more one-on-one time. We cook less and savor the small blessings that have been provided to us. This year, I’m not cooking much at all. We are going to a relative’s house for a very small Christmas dinner. That means dish duty, which is okay by me.
We buy less, and focus more on finding something unique that truly represents who we are and the relationship we have with an individual.
We buy local gifts, always. We support our friends and neighbors and we ship to our family out of the area, with a little extra love from home.
We focus “in” and make the holiday special. Merry Christmas, from our family, to you. Merry Christmas to my mom and dad, sister and her family, brother and his family, my children (Matt, Ali, Allison and Hayden), to Brandon and Marti. Merry Christmas to Joe and Nancy, Cathy and Mike. Merry Christmas to Monica and Asher, Terri and her family, Tosha and her family and all of our friends and neighbors in the Peak to Peak, and beyond. God bless all of you.
This year, the newspaper has been expanding by leaps and bounds. For that, I have a lot of gratitude. We are ready to launch our Keep it Local Campaign (see page 19 for Gilpin details).
On Tuesday, December 21, I presented a similar campaign to the Nederland Board of Trustees. I’d like to thank the 25 people that submitted letters in support of the ARPA proposal submitted by The Mountain-Ear. THANK YOU for supporting community journalism AND the businesses of Nederland, who would receive the support as a whole! The proposal will go back to the BOT in January, with some fine tuning.
If you’d like to support local, community journalism, in the last days of December, please see our #newsCOneeds information on page 2.
To all of you, thank you. For reading, subscribing, advertising, donating and above all else, supporting The Mountain-Ear newspaper for over 4 decades.
As always my door is open (in Nederland and Black Hawk), my phone is on (303-810-5409) and my email gets checked regularly at publisher1977@gmail.com. Thanks for reading!
