Ned Mountain Bike Team finds success in Eagle

Posted

EAGLE — The Nederland Mountain Bike team took on the dusty, windy course at the Eagle Haymaker Classic on Saturday, September 26, 2026. The team raced hard, earning second place in Division Two for the third race in a row.

Freshman Nora Shurr found the top step of the JV girls’ podium for the second race in a row, maintaining the overall Yampa Region leader’s jersey. She employed race tactics by saving energy in the first lap, then making her move at the beginning of the second lap, gaining a 30-second lead over second place by the time she crossed the finish line.

Junior Jonny Moss rode a smart race as he battled another rider throughout all three laps of the 18-mile varsity boys’ race. Moss finally surged ahead on the final lap to finish sixth in the highly competitive field.

Two other Nederland riders finished sixth this week. Junior Cody Waldron rode strong in the JV girls’ race, while Tyler Begin claimed sixth in the sophomore boys’ division. Legend Teller followed close behind, finishing 10th.

Freshman Wyatt Dodge also delivered an exciting sprint finish in the freshman boys’ race, passing two other riders in the final stretch to take 16th out of 65 riders.

New this year, a special race called the Middle School Mayhem provided an opportunity for Nederland’s middle school riders to experience the fun and challenge of a race weekend.

Middle schoolers Mikey Moss, Silas Fitzer, Felix Toorenberg, Brook Loughlin, Landyn Stackpole, and Eliana Sibray had a chance to race at the Middle School Mayhem in Eagle.

Mikey Moss, Landyn Stackpole, Eliana Sibray, Felix Toorenberg, Silas Fitzer, and Brook Loughlin competed against other middle schoolers in a shortened version of the high school course. Seventh grader Landyn Stackpole earned a spot on the podium with an impressive fifth-place finish in the girls’ division.

Regionals for the Nederland Mountain Bike Team will be held in Cañon City on October 11.

We’d like to thank our generous sponsors for helping to keep the team riding: Nederland Veterinary Clinic, Eldora Mountain Resort, Justin’s, and Rudi’s.
