The Nederland Area Historical Society is very excited to announce its future plans! The board of directors has decided to sell the three lots that they own to the west of the mining museum in the town of Nederland. The purpose for this sale is to take advantage of historically high property values and put the proceeds to good use that will ensure the preservation of Nederland?s history. Pending the successful sale of the lots, our organization’s intention is to spend the proceeds on three major projects. These projects include:
1. Constructing a fence system and front entrance, as well as improving the drainage around the Nederland cemetery.
2. Make repairs and improvements to the Bryant house located in the RTD lot with the purpose of preserving the structure into the future.
3. We intend to use the bulk of the proceeds to partner with the Nederland Library in creating a branch dedicated to Nederland area historical documents, photographs, and artifacts, open to the public and preserved for year and years to come.
Many of you are probably asking, “what will happen to the steam shovel”? Efforts are being made to find a new local home for the steam shovel at this time. While no location has been selected, it is our full intent to place it somewhere in our area where it is readily available to the public. In addition, the other historic artifacts located on the site have been donated to the Nederland Downtown Development District who have eagerly received them and are currently finding new homes around town for the public’s viewing pleasure.
We are very excited about our future plans to make sustainable efforts towards the preservation of our areas history, and for the new revitalized path this organization is taking.
