Keep it Local: Colorado Septic

Posted

PEAK TO PEAK - Bob Broadwell and his team make up the only septic system business in the Nederland/Peak to Peak area. In 2008 the mountain business started and now it’s booming. Broadwell prides himself on having a thorough approach while being timely and professional.

“I'm the only local,” Broadwell said. “Everyone else is from either down all the way in Golden or basically they're out of the east side of Boulder County.”

In the case of a local emergency, Colorado Septic is the one to call. With other companies being located miles away, Broadwell provides an essential service to the Peak to Peak community.

As the only local business of its kind, Broadwell gets a lot of work calls throughout the day. He told The Mountain-Ear that he can’t always answer, often because he is either driving or experiencing spotty cell service in the mountains.

Recently he has struggled to keep up with demand. Since hiring a receptionist, Broadwell says his business has grown by at least a third.

Broadwell grew up in Ohio but later moved to Colorado for the sunshine and forests. Before starting his business, he worked in a sales job based out of Pennsylvania. Upon moving to Colorado, he started doing side work for a local septic company. A few years after that business was sold, he was able to get a truck and start his own company. He described himself as a “one-man band” in the beginning.

“I like living up here as opposed to down in the flats,” Broadwell said. “I'm just trying to work as close to home as possible.”

Some of the weight has been taken off Broadwell since hiring Adam Silva to his leadership team. Broadwell enjoys many aspects of his job and likes to set his own hours as a business owner. He also likes working outdoors. He tries to take care of people and do business with others in the Peak to Peak area before traveling elsewhere for work.

Going forward, Broadwell hopes to one day expand his business by getting another truck and driver.

Efficiency is one of his top priorities. Right now, he wants to work something out with local municipalities so he can dump waste closer to home. He currently has to go all the way to Boulder or Denver, which takes a lot of time and puts more miles on the work truck.

Those in need of septic services can view Broadwell's website (www.coseptic.com) for more information. The business offers inspections, repairs and other services. Inspections are a great place to start if there is a need to determine if a septic system is serviceable or failing.

“We do the most thorough job and I think our prices are competitive,” Broadwell said. “We just try to pass on the knowledge I've gathered over the years.”
