BOULDER COUNTY - Tiny but proud, Jamestown celebrated the Fourth of July with their traditional parade and a day-long party in the park. Residents and visitors enjoyed a beautiful day with sunshine, music, and laughter from young and old.
Jamestown always has a small parade featuring their Marching Kazoo Band, firetrucks, horseback riders, and kids. Prior to the parade, the town hosted a pancake breakfast in the town square that was packed. Town Clerk and Treasurer Mary Burch said that 90% of the funds from the breakfast are donated to the fire department and 10% to the parks.
After breakfast and the parade, festivities moved to Elysian Park for music, games, and more food. Vendor stalls were set up to sell food and crafts while local bands played into the evening.
There were games galore for kids and adults, with a kids pool set up to help the little ones cool off.
After several years of missing in action, Arne Metzger brought out the infamous anvil and the crowd got to witness several rounds of the always popular anvil toss (put a stick of dynamite under an anvil and see how high it can go).
Jamestown no longer shoots off fireworks due to the fire danger, but the town celebrated this Fourth of July with the same gusto and joy as any in the past. It was packed. It was loud and it was fun.
