Pumpkin Decorating Contest: Open to all ages! No carved pumpkins, only exterior decoration. Pumpkins must represent a book or movie character. Voting by the staff and public will begin October 29. Winners announced at noon October 31. This competition is being hosted by the Gilpin County Public Library, located at 15131 Highway 119, Black Hawk.

October 24 and 25

Central City Creepy Crawl: Sponsored by the Gilpin Historical Society. Join us for our annual pentalogy of creepy tales from Gilpin County's past. Begins at 6:30 p.m. each night, with a new tour group departing every half hour until 8:30 p.m. Tickets $18.65 in advance or $20 at the door. Friday, October 24

Spooky Stroll: Play carnival games, dare to take a walk through the haunted barn, and trick or treat! We will sell $5 wristbands at the event for carnival games. 90% of the money will be split among the Gilpin County School student-represented groups. 5 to 9 p.m. at 250 Norton Drive, Black Hawk. 

Pumpkin Carving Party: It's the annual pumpkin carving party! Bring your pumpkin; we'll have carving tools! Prize for best carved! 6 to 8 p.m., Very Nice Brewing Gilpin Tap Room, 180 Jankowski Drive, Black Hawk.

Trunk or Treat at NES: Sign up to decorate and trunk by emailing helpatschools.org.  5 to 7 p.m. at Nederland Elementary School, located at #1 North Sundance Trail, Nederland. 

Saturday, October 25

20th Annual Gory Gilpin Grocers Neighborhood Event: Haunted House at 11 a.m., BBQ at 12 p.m., and Trick or Treat at 1 p.m. Located at 32 South Dory Lakes Drive, Black Hawk.

Howl at the Moon Fundraiser: Friends of Charlie’s Place Annual Fundraiser. Halloween extravaganza with music, dancing, food, costume contest. 6 to 10 p.m., Idaho Springs Elks Lodge, 1600 Colorado Boulevard, Idaho Springs. 

Halloween Ned: Haunted house, carnival games, and photo corner! Magic show with Doc Murdock at 2 p.m. $4 for kids walking age and up, $2 for each additional kid, adults are free. $1 for four game tickets. 12 to 2:30 p.m. 

Spooktacular Bash: Costume party, open mic and chili cookoff! Music signup opens at 5:30 p.m. No cover charge, cash bar. 6 to 9 p.m. at The Old Gallery located at 14863 Highway 7, Allenspark. 

Sunday, October 26

Spooky Face n’ Fangs:  Great for tweens and teens! Join us for an afternoon of fun with special effects make-up and face-paint. All ages are welcome, but please be aware for our younger audiences that we’ll be playing with scar, wound, and gore effects as well as regular face paint. Come and let our artists make you up or try out your own skill with our supplies! 1 to 3 p.m., Nederland Community Library, 200 Highway 72 North, Nederland.

Halloween Magical Maze: Halloween Party Open House at Gold Hill School! Food and fun in an experiential environment. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 891 Main Street, Gold Hill.  

Camp Always Choose Adventure Halloween Spooktacular: Halloween Heads at Camp ACA! Pumpkin carving and crafts, Trick-or-Treat stations and snacks, bonfire, and music, photo ops, and spooky surprises. Happy Halloween Heads at Camp ACA: Halloween celebration filled with costumes, games, treats, and fall fun for all ages. Pumpkin carving and crafts, trick or treat stations, bonfire, and photo ops! Halloween Costume Crawl: Dress spooky, get treats!  6 to 8 p.m. at Very Nice Brewing, 180 Jankowski Drive, Black Hawk.

Haunted Mountain Party: Presented by the Nederland General Store. Live music, a burlesque show, and a costume contest. The theme is Eldora Mountain in 1962. The Curse of Voodoo Mountain: Halloween dance party with The Alcapones at the Gold Hill Inn! $20 tickets, bring cash to the door. Starts at 8 p.m. at 401 Main Street, Gold Hill.
