Emily Pleier, Gilpin County. The Gilpin Wrestlers had an outstanding day at their first home tournament of the season. All three boys placed in their weight classes and showed an extraordinary amount of improvement since the beginning of the season. The day was full of hard work and determination, which showed the boys are almost ready for regionals.

Kamron Brewer placed first in his weight class of 113lbs. He wrestled three matches that day and ended up winning all of them. To begin the day, he wrestled Dustin Neal-Murphy from Middle Park High School. After that, he wrestled Ryan Weber from Evergreen High School, and then Boden Callison, also from Evergreen High School.

Mike Wenholz also placed first in his weight class of 132 lbs. He had five matches that day and made each one look easy. His first match of the day was against Ben Oddo, from Valor Christian High School, then Kross Pollaccia, from Evergreen High School, Stirling Winnegrad, from Eagle Valley High School, Tyler Cavanaugh, from Valor Christian High School and last, Brandon St. Onge, From Eagle Valley High School.

Angel Gomez placed second in his weight class of 138 lbs. The wrestler has been working hard and showed an astounding amount of improvement since the beginning of the season. His first match was against Gabe McNulty, from Middle Park High School, then another against Wyatt Beiriger from Evergreen, and last Benji Bowling from Valor Christian High School.

Each wrestler did an amazing job at this week’s home tournament. This tournament will be our last tournament until regionals February 13 and 14, 2019, in Akron, Colorado. The boys are in practice working hard to make sure they are fully prepared.
