Emily Pleier, Gilpin County. The Gilpin track teams’ first meet of the season was a huge success, breaking two school records with nine students placing in multiple different events. The meet showed great promise for an outstanding season.

To start off the day, we had the girls’ 100-meter dash, which was run by Nicole Adams in 11th place, Olivia Ball in 18th place, and Emma Hansen who placed 28th. After this was the 400-meter dash run by Olivia Ball, with a time of 1 minute and 24 seconds, which ended up placing her in fifth.
Lena Warren also placed in two events, 10th in the girls 800-meter dash with a time of 3 minutes and 5 seconds, and fifth in the 1600-meter run with an outstanding time of 6 minutes and 50 seconds.
The Gilpin County girls also placed eighth in the 4x100 which was run by Jasmine Crook-Arends, Nicole Adams, Emily Pleier and Bailey Hobson-Kroll, with a time of 59 seconds.
The 800-meter Medley was run by Bailey Hobson-Kroll, Emma Hansen, Sarah Trujillo and Jasmine Crook-Arends, with a time of 2 minutes and 22 seconds, the girls placed eighth. Last were field events, with two students placing, Emily Pleier and Jasmine Crook-Arends, both placed in long jump, with Jasmine jumping 11 feet 8 inches and Emily jumping 12 feet.
The boys also placed in multiple events. Stephen King placed in every single one of his events, which included the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.77 seconds, the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.90, the 400-meter dash, with a time of 57.98 seconds and the long jump, in which he jumped 17 feet 6 inches.
Stephen ended up breaking both the school’s 100-meter and 200-meter dash records. Seth Gordon also ran the 100-meter and 200-meter dash along with Jesse Felty. Seth placed 27th with a time of 13.32 seconds for the 100-meter dash, and 29.41 seconds for the 200-meter dash.
