Gilpin resident running for Colorado House, District 13

James E. (Jed) Gilman is a five year resident of Gilpin County, Colorado. Former resident of Evergreen, and Aurora, Colorado, he seeks office to help empower the citizens, in these trying times, by not imposing more burden on individuals. Running on the Libertarian platform, which seeks to downsize big government, lower or eliminate individual income taxes, property taxes, and allow the individuals to decide how best to utilize one’s own benefits.

Gilman believes that keeping more of what someone earns, “in their own pocket”, enables them to become more and more independent, less entangled by government, and ultimately, make better choices overall.

Of course, there is also individual responsibility that comes with all of this, and Jed believes in the honest, hardworking, and civil mindedness of the American spirit. “When allowed, and empowered, by less government manipulation, individual success builds individual pride, and that then flows towards others around them. As each success, breeds more and more success, the spirit to lift others up with them, also builds”

Gilman believes in the fundamentals the United States was founded on, the US Constitution, the fact that the United States of America, is and always has been a Republic, (not a simple democracy), and individual liberty that was intended by such. He embraces the balance of power that was created into the Constitution.

“Liberty is the right of every Citizen. But it does come also with responsibility. Your own liberty, ends, where you attempt to impose your will, onto others. In this time of polarization, I think it’s time, for a third party mindset, to come into play as a balancing medium to an outdated two party system.”

Jed Gilman was raised on a farm in the Midwest, brings Midwest Christian values, honesty, hard work ethic, common sense and faith in God and fellow mankind. He spent seven years with the US Army intelligence service, during the Cold War. He trained in (the former) Soviet Union Military doctrine to brief, effectively, Unit commanders.

He spent 33 years as a Process operator, currently Chief Operator, in an Industrial facility.

He is a father, grandfather, brother and husband.
