This month, to celebrate Halloween, The Gilpin County Public Library hosted a pumpkin decorating contest.
All ages were allowed to enter. Contestants were to decorate a pumpkin of their own. The pumpkin could be real or fake. They could use anything to decorate the pumpkin so long as the art was based on a book or movie. The contestants were to turn in the pumpkins within the time period of October 11 - 29.
The library staff shall begin voting on the pumpkins on October 30. The winner is to be announced on October 31. Prizes for the winners are to be gift cards for Amazon, 1st place shall receive $75, 2nd place will get $50, and 3rd place will be given $25.
There were not many contestants this year. There were five pumpkins in the contest. Entry #1 was titled “Minions.” Two gourds were decorated to look like Minions. The Minions were decorated with Bottle caps, giant googly eyes, and paper baskets for the trick-or-treating. The artist even included their own candy in the baskets, making the minions look like they are in the middle of a fun trick or treating event.
Entry #2 was entitled “Encanto,” there was a painted character on a small pumpkin. Entry #3 was entitled “Lord of the Rings.” The large pumpkin was painted with a map of Middle Earth among other paintings of characters from the books. On top the artist wrote “Lord of the Rings” over a fire like design. Entry #4 was entitled “I Won’t Share.” A drawing of a dog was under colorful paint.
