Gilpin County National and Junior Honor Society Induction

Aucklynn Sacco, Gilpin County. On December 8, 2020, the Honor Society Chapter at Gilpin County High School welcomed its new members. This year, the induction ceremony looked a little different.

The induction ceremony took place over Zoom and featured Katura Atherton as the main speaker. Damion Sonsiono, a Gilpin County High School senior, spoke as well. After the speakers spoke, a presentation was shared where it showed the current members, as well as the new members. After all of the members were recognized, the new members unmuted themselves to recite the pledge together (or as together as it could be).

The members have to do much more to remain a member of the society. They must maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher, attend the monthly meetings, participate in the St. Baldrick’s fundraiser, document at least 20 hours of community service, and retain an excellent disciplinary standard.

Anita Myers runs the National Junior Honor Society, while Heather Newman runs the National Honor Society. The National and Junior Honor Society looks not only for high academic achievement but also for leadership, service, and character. The National Junior Honor Society consists of members between the grades of seventh and ninth. The National Honor Society members are sophomores, juniors and seniors.
