At 101 Norton Drive, Black Hawk, is the Gilpin County Food Pantry. On June 21 kids from Gilpin County were allowed to come and pick up two weeks worth of lunches and breakfasts. Mac and cheese, PB & J, pancake mix, eggs, milk, bacon, and cereal were all available.

As a part of the Gilpin County Food Pantry free lunch program all kids (anyone under 18) in Gilpin County are allowed to participate regardless of income or homeschooling. The program aims to make lunch and breakfast available for all kids no matter their situation. The food pantry gets food through buying it with donations and grant money, the Food Bank of the Rockies, and The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP).

The food pantry also offers selection for those with dietary restrictions. Almond milk was available in place of normal milk. Much of what they offer is vegetarian such as bags of apples, celery stalks, pancake mix, and much more. They do still offer meats like hotdogs as well.

On June 7 they served 12 households or about 27 kids. They planned to serve 36 children on June 21. All future dates are July 12, July 26, and August 9 between 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The Gilpin County Food Pantry is located at 101 Norton Drive, Black Hawk. For more information about the food pantry call 720-432-6120 or email ckeller@gilpincounty.org.
