Dear Editor,
As a democratic republic, the citizens of a community with a local, state and federal government have an obligation to vote into office and monitor the performance elected officials.
Elected officials should have demonstrated an ability to be fair, just, pragmatic and responsible with resources entrusted to them.
To have an effective government that efficiently executes their duties in accordance with the wishes of the citizens, the law, and in the interest of the highest and greatest good of the affected communities, officials should not be voted into office on name recognition, relationships or party lines.
Elected officials should have a strong sense of personal accountability for themselves and others.
Elected officials should believe in the intelligence and competence of their constituents to make personal decisions that are appropriate for themselves. Elected officials not overstep on individual rights and liberties.
Elected officials should remember they are there to be the servants of and accountable to the citizens that they represent. They are NOT there to push their personal agendas or twist the interpretation of the law to conform to their personal beliefs or to leverage their power and possession of information to self-enrich themselves.
That is why I will be supporting Web Sill for Gilpin County Commissioner. He has held the position and demonstrated the above in the past. I feel he will do so again if elected. We need someone who can dig this county out the financial hole that has been created in recent years.
Warm Regards,
Robyn Kalnins
