Barbara Lawlor, Gilpin County. The Gilpin High School girls’ basketball team ended the season with two consecutive wins, one against Cornerstone Christian, 48-34, last Wednesday, Feb. 17, and the other against Shining Mountain on Saturday, which was the first playoff game.
The Eagles ended the season with a 4-3 league record. They played their second playoff game against Jim Elliot on Tuesday, Feb. 23. Statistics were not available by press time.
Last Tuesday, Feb. 17, the Eagles bested Cornerstone Christian to end season play. Keely Schmidt was the high scorer with 12 points, and Cicely Lepro had nine rebounds.

Aspen Nadeau: 1 point, 2 rebounds, 2 steals
Khristine Barr: 9 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 1 block
Carly Johnson: 2 points, 2 rebounds
Cicely Lepro: 9 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal
Katelyn Armstrong: 7 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist 1 steal
Annebel Diekman: 1 rebound
Keely Schmidt: 12 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist
Jada Gohdes: 4 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal
Berkley Davis: 4 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal
Shania Gonzales: 2 rebounds, 1 steal
The Eagles then went on to beat Shining Mountain on Saturday, 36-23, in an amazing comeback effort in the third period. The girls won their first playoff game, part of the 1A girls basketball district 8 tournaments. Down by two points in period three, Gilpin soared ahead by 10 points and then added another five-point gain in the fourth period. Khristine Barr was the high scorer with 12 points including three 3-pointers.

On Tuesday the Eagles played Jim Elliot at the First Church of the Nazarene in Englewood. Win or lose, they play Friday night in the District third place game or in the District championship, 5:30 or 7:30 p.m. at Denver Waldorf School.
