Dennis Duckett left this world on July 15, 2026, in his beautiful home in Raton, New Mexico.
Dennis landed in Nederland in 1974 after serving his country during the Vietnam war, making these mountains his home for the next 47 years. Inspired by John Lewis, he cultivated a lifestyle of "Making Good Trouble". His commitment to peace and justice was baked into his DNA. From protesting at Rocky Flats and Standing Rock, to opposing data centers in Raton--he was a social justice warrior till the end.
His heart beat strong for his family. His love and compassion for humanity and the Earth was contagious.
He is survived by his children Laurelin and Willie Duckett, his three grandchildren Foster, Liliana, and Amia, his partner Dianne Flemming and her daughter Darby Rae. A celebration of Dennis's life will be held at Chipeta Park at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 26.
