Curtain opens on NMSHS fall plays

Barbara Lawlor, Nederland.  The four actors on the stage held William Culver upside down, dangling off the edge, peering below him until he passed out. The audience learns he went to the other side of their reality, to see a strange reflection of himself. Soon all the characters but one jump off the stage, unable to stand the suspense of not knowing what was out there, in the dark.

While the cast members of “Exit” worked on the stage, other casts were spread out in the Nederland Middle Senior High School halls, practicing their lines. They had 10 days to know their lines, know their places on stage and develop their characters.

The NMSHS Fall Plays and the Talent Show Acts will take place next Friday, November 13 and Saturday, November 15 at 7p.m. On each night three different one act plays will be performed. On Friday, “This is a Test,” “The New Margo,” and “Twitch” will be shown.

Friday’s Talent Show acts will include William Culver, Fiona Higgins, Mariah Ingraham and Emily Albright. Saturday’s one-acts will be “This is Text,” “Exit,” and “Take Five.” The Talent Show on Saturday will include Mariah Ingram, Hayley Turner and Hattie Bakke.

“The New Margo” by Stephen Gregg

It’s only four days until classes start for their freshman year, and Margo didn’t come back to the dorm last night. Finally, she arrives. There is just one problem: Margo isn’t Margo.

“Take Five” by Westley Pederson

Imagine you are an actor on opening night trying to perform on a set that isn’t complete. Then an actor doesn’t show up, a fruitcake from the audience uses the stage phone, and two incompetent stage hands can’t help.

“Exit” by Ron Dune

Five people awaken to find themselves on a stage with no visible exit and no memory of how they got there. A huge leap of faith might be their only way out.

“Twitch” by Stephen Gregg

Nancy and Dan think the new neighbors are creepy. They are torn between waiting to find out who they are and kicking them out of the house. The ending is unexpected.

“This” is a Test by Stephen Gregg

You stayed up all night studying for a test with no review sheets. You don’t know any answers and the test is in Chinese.

“This is a Text” by Stephen Gregg

A new and improved sequel to “This is a Test:” A modern update on an old problem - test anxiety.
