The Gilpin County Board of County Commissioners discussed furniture requests for the Gilpin County Courthouse during a regular meeting at 9 a.m. on January 23, 2018, at the Central City Hall. The Board also approved a minor subdivision request.
County Treasurer Alynn Huffman said that between Vicki Nemec and Sharon Cate, they pulled together a proposal for furnishings at the renovated courthouse. “Have you ever tried herding cats?” Huffman asked.
The Gilpin County Courthouse and County offices have been under renovation since December, which includes moving and storing furniture, asbestos removal, replacing flooring and carpeting and painting. As a result, the Board has been meeting at the Central City Hall.
The clerk’s office needed new furniture, so they are up to $43,000, Huffman said. The mats needed to protect those floors are crucial. They couldn’t get bids on the counter in the Treasurer’s Office, because the project is to large.
Mayor Ron Engels said they have budgeted for the stairway and hallway runners and asked if there was a possibility of doing that across the floors. Just for consistency, could we role this carpeting into that project? Public Works Director Gordon Thompson said that they will go with a carpet company.
Commissioner Gail Watson said she can think of at least one local cabinet maker who could do the counter.
Huffman said that her counter has been broken and the biggest issue is how big it is. Marble is too soft, so they found one that is stone. Engles suggested just going with a Formica top.
Commissioner Linda Isenhart said: “I think it shows restraint on our part to ramp it down a bit -- something that is durable, even an old-fashioned wood top.”
After further discussion, Engles directed staff to get another quote based on standard Formica and wants to look at cheaper options for floor mats. The Recorder’s office furniture must go out for bid, but they have the option of waving the policy.
Engels asked Huffman to do research on counter tops, chair mat options and vinyl and cloth mats. Public works will look into floor runners. The Clerk and Recorder will prepare a request for bids for furniture in Colleen’s office and Watson will call her contact.
Community Development Director Stephen Strohminger presented an amendment to a minor subdivision for Lone Pine Real Estate at Roosevelt Ridge. In 2005, Roosevelt Ridge was approved and established 20 development rights with the ability to transfer to a maximum of seven additional rights for a total of 27.
The conditions of approval stipulated that the additional development rights for seven existing one-acre lots on two mining claims located within the perimeter bounds of Roosevelt Ridge were to be transferred.
The applicant would like to plat lot 24 and transfer a development right from one of the existing lots as opposed to one of the stipulated in-holdings. Lot three would be restricted from development until the County approves another density transfer originating from either the stipulated in-holdings or by any future means. The Board approved the amended plat.
The Board met on February 6. The next meeting of the Gilpin County Board of County Commissioners will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, at the Central City Hall.
