Changing the World, one music note at a time

Posted

Omayra Acevedo, Nederland.  Music has changed, and keeps changing, the lives of so many people. Not just the artists themselves, but fans, photographers, writers, producers and even those that haven’t realized it yet. Most of us can’t deny that music is very much a vital part of our existence. We can recall the first time we attended a concert, the moment we acknowledged who our favorite singer-songwriter was, why our favorite song is our favorite song, the type of music we listen to depending on our mood, so on and so on.

However, some of us fail to realize why music is so important to us in the first place or how we came to have a favorite artist. Two words: The venues! If it were not for the small and/or independent venues where artists could perform for the first time and get discovered (by you or a record label), well, just imagine how empty our lives would be

No worries. It’s apparent that neither music nor its venues are going anywhere any time soon. There are an endless number of music festivals, concerts, documentaries and celebrations that it’d be hard to miss them all even if you wanted to. For five successful years Independent Venue Week has been held in the UK, and from my understanding it’s still going strong. What’s Independent Venue Week? I’m glad you asked.

Independent Venue Week is a seven-day celebration of small music venues that brings together venues, artists, love, entertainment and sometimes even record producers, creating an international series of performances with a local feel. And guess what?! It’s now in the USA!!! That’s right! Independent Venue Week will be launched across the US on July 9, 2018 through July 15, 2018. I recently learned that our very own Caribou Room in Nederland, Colorado has joined the celebration.

The Caribou Room doesn’t just support the music industry and all artists, but they are a leading example of being eco-conscious, local, creative and overall supporters of the community they live in. I think we can do our part and give back by supporting them in return!

Independent venues continue to give artists the early experience and exposure of playing live in front of an audience as well as the opportunity to grow as artists. What are you waiting for!?! Get out there and support your local artists and venues. Take a chance in changing your world for the better, one music note at a time.
