John Scarffe, Nederland. The Nederland Public Works Department met a group of 19 students and two teachers from New Vista High School in Boulder on May 9 and 10, 2018. Public Works Employee Nicki Dunn said the students came up to do some volunteer work.

The students helped clean up some town land that hadn’t been touched in more than a decade in old town, Dunn said. The group took four dump loads of slash.
The volunteers did trash clean up along the Tungsten Trail as well as some trail maintenance. They also helped with the reclamation of a garden bed at Chipeta Park.
The New Vista High School gives its students one week off every year to do volunteer work, Dunn said. The goal is to teach the students lessons in equity and equality.
“They were incredible,” Dunn said. “I have a Big Nederland thank you for Hunter, Datruck, Loadve and all of the students from New Vista High.”
