stock arrest barsOn April 2, a Nederland Police Department officer was dispatched to the scene of a reported stolen purse. The victim was following the suspect’s vehicle down Boulder Canyon. The victim reported that the suspect had stolen cash from her hand, which made the incident a felony. A Boulder County Open Space Ranger set up a staging area at the corner of Magnolia and Boulder Canyon and a Colorado Wildlife Officer waited at Sugarloaf Road.

When the Ned officer neared Sugarloaf, he could see the victim’s and the suspect’s vehicles. He and the wildlife officer pulled the suspect vehicle over east of the tunnel. The passenger was patted down for weapons and put in the rear of the patrol vehicle. The Ned officer talked to the victim, who said she had agreed to purchase seven grams of medical marijuana for the man. When he started to count out the cash, the man took  her whole paycheck, $2,100 in $l00 bills.

When the officer asked why they didn’t just go to a regular dispensary, the victim said she was told it would be okay for him to pick up her medical marijuana. The story didn’t sound completely truthful. The woman said she drove to Colorado for a three-day vacation and wanted to try marijuana. Then she said the actual robbery of cash took place in Boulder. She said, “ I just want my money back and I will leave the state immediately. This was a stupid idea.”

The officer asked the Boulder Police to take the report. The Ned officer cleared the people involved, except the male who had a traffic warrant with a $500 bond, statewide extradition. The officer learned that the same vehicle was impounded a year ago, when it was stopped for driving with fictitious plates. The suspect was placed in custody and the vehicle was searched. The officer found a black plastic container from a marijuana dispensary, a cell phone, a light and a wallet.  The suspect was taken to the Boulder Police Department.

On April 3, a man stopped for a traffic offense was discovered to have an active warrant out of Douglas County with a $300 bond. He was taken to the Boulder County Jail.

On April 3, a Ned officer contacted four people at the Barker Dam parking lot to inform them the lot was closed at dark. He was releasing then with warnings when an SUV pulled up and parked. A man got out and walked past the four people, heading east on the foot path toward the dam. He looked determined and upset. The officer followed the man for 200-300 yards and found him sitting on a rock. The officer asked him if he was okay. He said yes, but the officer reports that something seemed to be bothering him.

When asked for identification, the man exuded an odor of an alcoholic beverage. The officer told him that the parking lot was closed and told him to walk back to the lot. The man had trouble keeping his balance and almost tripped. The man said he did not want to participate in a roadside maneuver test. He was placed under arrest of DUI. During a search, the office found marijuana and a glass pipe in the man’s pocket. The officer found a 12-pack of beer in the cae, unopened.  He was transported to the jail.

On April 4, a woman dropped by the NPD to report the theft of a porch swing, worth about $300. The officer talked to the woman’s landlord who said the swing had been out there for a long time and he thought she sent someone to pick it up. He said two men came and got and carried it down the street around 7:30 a.m. The woman said, okay, never mind then.

On April 9, a Nederland officer was sent to investigate a disturbance coming from the Nederland Community Center. The volunteers said a local woman had created a verbal disturbance and has been known to throw food across the room. The staff said they no longer wanted the woman to come back to the NCC ever again. The officer said a written warning would be enough, but if the woman came back, she would be charged with trespassing.

The officer talked to the woman who said nothing happened, that she only talked to a few people, and said she was never going back.

On April 14, a man called the NPD  and said he was having an ongoing issue with a neighbor and a dog.  He said he came from work and the dog had been baking for two hours. He said he tried to talk to the owner who became argumentative and angry. He said the dog also defecates on his property. He did not want a summons issued at the time but he asked the officer to talk to the neighbor.

On April 15, a Ned officer was asked to assist BCSO deputies to serve a protective order.

The suspect was known to have a temper and when she contacted, she became enraged. The protected and the restrained persons lived in the same building. The woman was told to pack her things and leave. While the officers waited outside, they could hear her yelling and screaming and banging around. She said she wanted to file a police report, claiming she had been inappropriately sexually contacted by the protected person.

The group went to the NPD and the women took the complaint forms. She was unable to provide details of the event, the time of day or date. She said she had been “black out drunk.”

The officer told her she would have to go to the Boulder Community Hospital of a SANE examination process. She left the NPD and no one answered her phone. Later the officer received a phone call from the resident at the home who said her room was in total disarray. The officer responded and saw that the room was ransacked, and that there was a TV that was not hers, but was gone. They said the woman was sitting in a car in the front of the house.

During interviews of roommates they said the claim of sexual assault was out of retaliation and that the woman had taken off her clothes and tried to undress the man. The roommates filled statement forms and let the officer know that 18 marijuana plants were growing upstairs. The plants were not secure.

The officers and roommates were concerned that a large snow storm was predicted and it was uncertain if anyone was returning to care for the dogs in the room. The officer found two dogs with no food or water and told the roommates he would not charge them for trespassing if they went into the room to care for the dogs.

On April 19, the woman was seen sitting in front of the residence again violating her Protection Order. She was transported to the police station where she was asked about the sexual assault report she filed and she said she did not file any report. She was transported to the jail. There is probable cause of charges of Second degree burglary, Second degree criminal tampering, Criminal mischief and Violation of a Protection Order.

On April 15, A Ned officer was asked to cover a BC deputy for a physical domestic dispute between a male and female who lived about five miles from town.  It was reported that the female had taken a firearm from the home and left in the direction of a neighbor’s house to seek refuge.  The NPD officer heard a female screaming loudly from behind him and saw a woman walking out of a driveway on the both side of the road. She was screaming, “Help me, help me, he was beating me, just beating me. Oh God, help me.”

The officer reached out and lightly held he hands, reassuring her she was sage and he was here to help. He helped her into his patrol car and she asked him if he was going to do anything if the suspect was a friend. The officer assured her it would make no difference in the investigation.

The woman then said, “Please take it, please take it” and the officer noticed she was holding a small gun case in her hand. She handed him the case which contained a small, compact pistol with a full magazine but no round in the chamber. The woman said she had left the toilet seat down because the cat likes to drink from it and the suspect became angry and pushed her head into the sink and hit her on the back. She was becoming hysterical, almost hyperventilating.

Timberline Fire Protection District firefighters arrived and determined she needed oxygen immediately. She was escorted to the ambulance and a Boulder County Deputy took over the investigation.

On April 16, a man dropped into the NPD to report lost or stolen items. He said he had been in a restaurant and when he left, he forgot his jacket. Inside the jacket were his wallet, cash and a cell phone. The next day no one had seen the jacket. The man says the value of all of his items is about $350. The officer took the report and said he’d notify the man if the jacket shows up.

On April 17, Ned officers were asked to do a welfare check on a person who did not seem coherent. When officers knocked on the man’s door, he said come in but his speech seemed labored. The man was on the floor next to his mattress and his face was gray. The man said he had fallen down the day before and couldn’t move from where he was. The officer called for medical help who determined the man needed to be transported to the hospital.
