Barbara Lawlor, Gilpin County. Looking spiffy in their new jerseys, the AC Plumbing Acers moved up in the Gilpin County Parks and Recreation Adult Coed Softball standings, ending last week’s games with a 9-1 record, the same as the Champs.
Lenny Cortez, the team coach, said he attributes their success to the decade they have played together. Now some of the kids that played on the playground equipment during the game are on the team, having learned the skills at an early age.
This is the Acers’ fifth win a row.
Last week, on Wednesday, July 1, the Acers beat Whistlers, 17-4, and the Blue Sox beat the Misfits, 10-8.
On Thursday, July 2, the Acers beat the Players 14-12 and the Mean Machine beat the Misfits, 10-9.
With slightly less than three weeks until the end of the season, there is still time for a comeback rally from either the Mean Machine or the Players.
Standings:
1. The Champs, 9-1
2. Acers, 9-1
3. Mean Machine, 5-3
4. Players, 6-5
5. Blue Sox, 3-8
6. Whistler’s Cafe, 1-6
7. Misfits, 1-9
