Dear Editor,
I’m writing to express my support for Principal Melamed as the leader of the new PK-12 system BVSD is creating for Nederland schools. As a parent of 5th and 2nd graders who’ve attended NES since kindergarten, I’ve been deeply involved with the school and community. It’s clear to me that Principal Melamed is a capable, committed leader who understands our community’s unique needs.
Our community has been asking for years for stability and continuity in leadership. Unlike past leaders who often treated our school as a steppingstone, resulting in high turnover and instability, Principal Melamed has made a long-term commitment to our children and our community. He brings consistency, vision, and a deep belief in the potential and worthiness of our students and families.
He holds high expectations for everyone—students, staff, and parents—and leads with a mindset rooted in accountability and shared success. Academic achievement at NES has never been higher than under his leadership. He sees what our students can do and knows what our schools can be and is ready to work with us to get there.
As we move into this new PK-12 structure, I would appreciate hearing from him how he hopes to navigate the transition to a PK-12 system, what he envisions as important goals and objectives for helping our schools excel, and what he needs from us to help our community craft a common vision that we can all work towards positively and productively.
Of course, there will be challenges and differences of opinion, but I hope we can come together to support a leader who is choosing to invest in our kids and in the future of Nederland schools. Principal Melamed deserves the opportunity to lead us into this next chapter—and with our support, I believe he can do it well.
