Spinning Silica: A Nederland gem

Posted

“Local and Handmade,” is the business motto for Spinning Silica. Max and Bri Rashbaum, are excited to have a space with an outlet for artists to move their work. They are part of a group of boutique art galleries and studios that have popped up at Caribou Village Shopping Center, in Nederland in the last few years.

Bri fell into art by accident. She was attending college and had to take an art class. She wanted to sign up for photography, but the class was full. Her mom and sister signed her up for a ceramics class. She never looked back. She changed her major and now has an Associates of Art degree. Max has been learning about and working with glass for a long time. They met at a farmer’s market and decided to combine their talents.

Spinning Silica opened their doors for business in June of 2019. Their first location was inside the Kathmandu Gift Shop at 150 N. Jefferson Street. After sharing a space with the gift shop, Spinning Silica made the decision to move into their own, larger space. They reopened on December 1, 2021. They are excited for the larger, centrally located space in the Caribou Village Shopping Center. The space has allowed them to realize their dream of having a studio in the store.

They offer private and group classes, including Valentine workshops. The class information is on their website.

They also feature 17 local artists, besides themselves. Their artists are local to Nederland and the front range.

They look forward to working with other artists and making Nederland an inclusive community that features all of the galleries, artists and businesses.

When asked how fast they are growing as a company, Max responded, “We are trying not to grow too fast. We are steadily, slowly growing, but working within the understanding of what they can create.” They are looking forward to welcoming their first child at the end of April and expect a short maternity leave when the new baby arrives.

Spinning Silica is located at 20 E. Lakeview Drive, Unit 208. You can reach them by phone at (720) 240-8484. You can find them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/SpinningSilica or find out more on their website at https://www.spinningsilica.com/.
