When the pandemic hit, Allie Wags reevaluated her life and career as a yoga and meditation teacher and realized she had become stifled, stiff, and stuck. Mountain Hippie Radio was her inspiration to change that. Her “Hippie Church Radio Show” starts on December 1 to continue her spiritual work connection in a different form than her previous career.
So how did Wags become inspired? Due to Covid, with the yoga studios being closed, it was time to find an alternative to her practice and teaching. She also realized that she no longer “loved” her yoga and meditation practice. She says, “So, I threw out the rulebook and started back at the beginning. I asked myself, ‘What is my genuine spiritual expression? How did I feel most alive, most connected, most grounded?’ And what I discovered, was my connection with the quiet voice inside me didn’t require any dogmas or specific programs.”
Meditation was only part of her “spiritual” world. Snowboarding, boogieing, telling stories and listening to music were other components of finding her spirit. Upon realizing this, her world changed, the magic was back, she was doing more of what “lit her up.” Her physical body became stronger and more flexible, and her brain quieted. She was also happier and had more energy.
Wags wanted to share the magic with others, she relates, “And I knew in that moment I wanted to hold space for others to discover the power of their unique personal connection. Without rules or dogmas or shoulds.”
When her stepfather passed in 2012, she wanted to do something to memorialize him, but didn’t know what or how. As a rock ‘n’ roll DJ, he had introduced her to the transformative power of the human voice as well as music by Led Zeppelin, Derek and The Dominos, and other bands. As a storyteller she decided her vision was to bring this to others. As a yoga teacher she wanted to create space for the personal transformation and connection to higher self to occur.
“Each week, I show up and share stories about my own spiritual journey. I interview other musicians, artists, athletes, and mystics about their unique connection with something higher. I play music. And, as part of the show, we’ll meditate together, we’ll boogie together, and we’ll bask in the joy of life together. Because all of this spiritual stuff… well, it should be fun.”
This is what she wants for Hippie Church in the two weekly online shows available December 1. In the future she plans individual spiritual coaching, live events (virtual and in person) and other fun stuff.
In Wags’ words, “How can you listen to your own inner guidance? What unique-for-you spiritual practices can you start to incorporate into your life right now that will allow you to show up in your day-to-day life with more passion, more ease, and more joy? That is what Hippie Church is about.”
What is Wags’ favorite part of her new venture? “I absolutely adore sharing my story and my voice with others. Tapped in human beings show up better in the world than those who are disconnected.”
