Holly Bea-Weaver, Allenspark. If you are a fan of classical music and appreciate contemporary classical compositions, you won’t want to miss a free concert featuring pianist Barry Hannigan and flutist Mary Hannigan at The Old Gallery in Allenspark on Saturday, July 22 from 4-6 p.m.
“We’re very excited to be premiering Nebbioso that was written for Barry by Philadelphia composer Larry Nelson,” said Mary Hannigan. “We’ll also be performing Adagietto from Sonata For Flute and Piano by Estes Park composer Robert Charles Howard, who will be in attendance.
The program also includes Sonata in E Minor, BWV 1034 by J.S. Bach, Ballade in A Flat Major, Op. 47 by Frédéric Chopin and Suite, Op. 34, No. 1 by Charles Marie Widor.
Barry Hannigan was recently awarded Emeritus status at Bucknell University, where he retired as the Ellen P. Williams Professor of Music. He also received Bucknell University’s highest award for inspirational teaching. He made his New York debut in Carnegie Recital Hall in 1984 and has since received rave reviews in major cities across the United States. He has performed in Russia, England, China, Ireland, Norway and New Zealand. He is the recipient of many awards and prizes, including those from the Ford, Belin, Surdna, and Presser Foundations. He has also received a Solo Recitalist Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts; an award intended to recognize the nation’s outstanding recitalists.
Mary Hannigan is a member of the Harrisburg Symphony and recently retired from the faculty of Dickinson College, where she performed for many years with that college’s faculty wind quintet. She has also taught at Susquehanna University, Bucknell University, Wilkes University and Colorado College. A former faculty member of the Rocky Ridge Music Center in Colorado, she performed for the Music in the Mountains series for many years.
“We are thrilled to be performing at The Old Gallery, a renovated 1940s log structure with fabulous acoustics and a Steinway Grand piano,” said Barry Hannigan. “The Old Gallery is a great center for community and the arts in the Peak to Peak area, and we are happy to support their efforts by performing this benefit concert.” Admission is free, but donations to the non-profit are appreciated. Refreshments will be served.
The Old Gallery is located at 14863 Colorado Highway 7 in Allenspark, 20 minutes south of Estes Park. The not for profit provides a twice-monthly food bank distribution, health and wellness classes, entertainment, the Rocky Mountain 101 Speaker Series, concerts and more.
