Dear Editor,
Everyone – from toddlers to senior citizens - throughout the Peak to Peak region is invited to join the fun as we “Rise Against Hunger.”
Volunteers will meet at TEENS, Inc., 151 East Street in Nederland, on Tuesday, September 16 from 6-8 p.m. to package 10,000 nutritious and easy to prepare meals. The meals will be provided to the international organization Rise Against Hunger which will distribute them internationally to alleviate hunger.
The meal packaging is organized like an assembly line. Volunteers scoop the food, weigh it, place it in sanitary plastic bags and pack the meals in boxes for shipping. Individuals, families, and teams from businesses, civic and religious organizations are all encouraged to participate in this fun event. If a volunteer needs to be seated while packaging the food, this can be easily accommodated. Students will be provided a letter documenting their community service.
Rise Against Hunger is an international organization that has been working to end world hunger since 1998. The organization has facilitated the volunteer packaging of more than 600 million meals distributed to the hungry in countries around the world.
Nederland Community Presbyterian Church is organizing the event for the tenth and final year.
“Thanks to our faithful volunteers and generous sponsors, we have been able to organize the annual Rise Against Hunger event in Nederland for 10 years,” said Nederland Community Presbyterian Church Mission Elder Paula Gipp. “It has been gratifying to know that our efforts help feed hungry people around the globe. But rising shipping costs have made it financially unsustainable to continue the program in our community. Our sincere appreciation to everyone who has made it such a success for these ten years, and we hope everyone will come out to make this final Rise Against Hunger event a big success.”
To register yourself or a team please contact Paula Gipp via email at gipp.paula@gmail.com or at 303-328-5863. There is no fee to participate.
