Art is a way to communicate ideas, thoughts, emotions, and feelings. It has also been used as therapy or as a form to discover beauty in all things. Laurence Delaunay ART, owned by Laurence Delaunay Masters has been inviting audiences to live some of life’s experiences via art since 2011.
It all began with Delaunay’s parents who were interior designers. “My dad used to create his own palette of colors for the paint to decorate houses, and that fascinated me. Other artists also inspire me, including famous impressionists like Monet, Gauguin, and Toulouse Lautrec, but contemporary, abstract art is also intriguing,” shares Delaunay.
Living in such a beautiful state and loving where she lives, has also been part of Delaunay’s inspiration. “I love where I live, and that comes through in my work,” confesses Delaunay. Delaunay is also an entrepreneur. She paints on small and, her specialty, large canvases.
Art consists of all mediums including acrylic and oil paints, brushes, palette knives, sponges, and sometimes just her hands. Many of Delaunay’s pieces represent landscapes, flowers, birds, big animals, and everything in between.
Delaunay feels bold colors, spontaneous paint strokes, and big animals make her work stand out from other artists, sharing, “The contrast between fast, large movements and precise details is obvious in my work, and palette knives allow me to play with colors and layers for a unique style.”
Delaunay’s creativity begins in her Nederland home studio but shows her work locally at Salto Coffee, Dancing Grains, and a home furnishing shop on Pearl Street in Boulder, while her website and social media allow for her work to be shared, offering Delaunay opportunities to ship her paintings nationally and internationally.
Art enthusiasts can enjoy Delaunay’s work in two Nederland Farmer’s Markets each year, but look for her work to pop up in other local festivals in the future. This year, commissions grew Delaunay’s art business, inspiring her to consider opening a studio and art gallery at some point.
The Covid pandemic has affected many businesses. For Delaunay, it motivated her to develop her business on social media, offering her great exposure. When asked about the impacts of the pandemic, Delaunay shared, “Covid didn’t allow us to show art in person, and that was a big challenge. I am so happy to be able to host real art receptions again. My next show will be held 6-9 p.m. at Salto on December 9. There will be live music and appetizers. Everyone is invited to join!”
The only barrier that remains active for Delaunay is finding the time to, “paint, paint, paint! And I love it!,” according to Delaunay. She also says, “I am about to open an in-home art gallery to be able to show my work more easily to my clients, but someday I would like to open a work studio and gallery here in town. That would be fabulous!”
Being so enthusiastic about her art, it’s no surprise that Delaunay’s favorite part is standing in front of a white canvas and, “just going for it to see what happens! Creating and painting is very satisfying! I don’t mind painting all day long, especially with some good tunes in the background! This is my happy place!”
The Laurence Delaunay ART show at Salto Coffee is open to everyone and will feature music from “Loïc’s improvisations” on the piano followed by “Something Else” with Curly, Mike, and Shawn.
