Knotted Root Brewing Company, a brewing company in the Nederland community starting in 2019, was the love child of Chris Marchio and Chris Klein.
Klein made trips to Nederland in 2008 and fell in love with the Nederland community. Moving here in 2013, Marchio joined him in 2016 with a plan to open a brewing company in this community. Their passion for brewing led to the founding of Knotted Root Brewing Company.
Marchio, the founder, has 10 years of professional brewing experience from Washington to California to Colorado. Klein, the co-founder of the company, has experience with over eight years in the taproom and bar management industry, graduating in 2020 from CU Boulder with an MBA.
Now boasting 11 employees, Knotted Root Brewing Company releases one to three new beers every week, with three local artists featured on the can labels. The brewhouse is a 10-barrel system, with weekly can releases every Wednesday and weekly distribution of their beers across the Denver Metro area. In addition, Knotted Root Brewing’s taproom hosts 10 draft beers, with constantly-rotating canned options available to go.
There are food trucks, live music, and the occasional availability to host holiday and charity events as well. “Going with the flow, following our hearts, and staying true to ourselves are all key to how we operate,” said Marchio.
They are looking to expand upon the Nederland Homebase statewide and hoping to share the love put into their beers in another location. “We love Nederland and it will always be our home, but we’d love to expand across the state with a second location. Either down in the flatlands or somewhere in the southwest. We’re also working on launching a statewide lager brand.”
There have been many long days and nights for the team at Knotted Root Brewing Company, with aid from friends and family keeping them working and thriving. “It’s one of the greatest honors of our lives to be able to share our creations with the local community and the world and an even bigger honor that so many people are enjoying what we do,” said Klein.
