Keep it Local: LitWood Creations, LLC

Posted

They say that when you do what you love, you never work a day in your life. Few people know what this feels like and what it means to have this level of freedom. For those who do, they know it doesn’t come easy, but it’s sure worth it.

Jason Flesher and his fiancee, Michelle Garcia, are two hard working business owners who know the meaning and rewards of sweat, blood, and tears. The idea for their company began in 2018 but gained its LLC status at the end of 2021.

Passion for creating artificial lightning strikes on wood, the challenge of several disabilities in a 9-5 job, and the flexibility of working for himself all played a role in the establishment of LitWood Creations.

Flesher uses high voltage electricity, 2200 volts to be exact, to add a unique design to the furniture, kitchenware, and home decor that he sells. He learned by watching others perform the process, leading him to research and learn to build his machinery. What makes LitWood Creations special from other designers is the dangers that the process involved comes with. Very few artists are willing to take such risks.

When asked what his favorite part of what he does is, Flesher replied, “The favorite part of what I do is hard to answer. Most of what I do, I really enjoy,” making it more evident that he has found his niche. He did share that he loves watching people’s faces as they observe him in action.

With continued growth, Flesher hopes to one day be mobile and be able to do a complete burn from start to finish from anywhere, expanding from home decor to anything wood, including mailboxes, walls, fences, benches, and garden boxes, to name a few. Another dream is to own a brick and mortar, or perhaps, a fractal burned cedar cabin store.

As with most businesses, Flesher took a hit during the pandemic. With businesses closing and festival cancellations, it was challenging to start a business. Today, the struggle continues but in different ways. Enough business and affordable supplies are part of the continued struggles. “We are determined, and LitWood Creations LLC will continue to grow and evolve!” stated Flesher.

From a simple beginning of repurposing wooden trash into picture frames and struggling to make ends meet, Litwood Creations is a business story to inspire any novice or expert. Every job has pros and cons, but when you do what you love, the pros always outweigh the cons.

Like most Peak to Peak artists, you can find Litwood Creations at local festivals. The Gilpin County Art Gallery in Central City, Mountain Heart Gallery in Black Hawk, One Brown Mouse in Nederland, The Gilded Fox in Idaho Springs, Aborgata in Conifer, and Revampt in Cherry Creek are some of the places where you can find their products.
