NEDERLAND - Ella Zevenbergen is opening a therapeutic bodywork treatment practice in Nederland. She will provide treatments focusing on fascial work involving organs, nerves, and arteries. Her treatments can be used to address an array of physical and mental health issues.
“It's very subtle work looking for fascial restrictions within organs and nerves and arteries,” Zevenbergen said. “It's finding out how these things are not moving well and what's restricting them and then going into that restriction and releasing it.”
Fascia is a connective tissue in the body. It surrounds muscles, organs and bones. Fascial restrictions are areas of tightness or tension in the fascia. Fascial restrictions can cause the body to be pulled out of alignment. Release of restrictions can increase blood circulation and organ function, allow more flexibility, and reduce inflammation.
Zevenbergen started as a high school science teacher. As a self-proclaimed introvert, being in a room full of students wasn’t a good fit for her. After leaving the classroom, she went from physical therapy, to massage therapy, to doing visceral work. Viscera are all the organs in the body.
Zevenbergen says she treats issues “all across the board.” People come to her because of stress, digestive issues, migraines, dizziness and muscular-skeletal pain. Zevenbergen highlights that the practice is particularly helpful for anyone who has experienced surgery, especially abdominal surgery.
A day in the bodywork studio usually involves seeing three or four clients. Sessions vary in length, but Zevenbergen likes to block out at least a couple of hours for each. She decided to officially open a studio in Nederland because of its proximity to her other studio in Fort Collins. She also likes the people here and describes them as being more “laid back and earthy.”
Forging relationships with people is Zevenbergen’s favorite part of the job. She’s heard many success stories in her 20 years of being a practitioner. She recalled a story of a client struggling with yoga because of experiencing severe pain in her sternum. Zevenbergen helped her through by releasing her liver. The woman could then touch her toes.
“It's rare for things to happen that quickly,” Zevenbergen said. “But that was a really fun one.”
Zevenbergen isn’t familiar with her clientele in Nederland yet, but is looking forward to growing her business. The studio officially started operating this month. She hopes to share her “outside the box” techniques with the community.
“I would love a regular flow of clients coming in,” Zevenbergen said. Her message to potential clients is to “just come in and try it once. See if there's anything in the body that you would want addressed.”
Zevenbergen’s Nederland practice is located at 80 Big Springs Drive, Suite 201J, Nederland. Clients can book a treatment by calling her at 970-568-2575. She also offers complimentary consultations for interested customers. She can also be reached via email through a contact form on her website: www.ellazevenbergen.com/contact.
