Kaylie Murphy has been attending Gilpin County School since the seventh grade. Her fondest memories include attending field trips, seeing The Diary of Anne Frank, and even getting lost during a Rockies game.
During her four years in high school, Kaylie was an active choir participant. Periodically, Kaylie would help clean houses to earn money, but her priority has always been to focus on school.
She has loved meeting various people while at Gilpin County School and says, “I will miss having a routine of getting up every day (well some days) for school.”
Her friends, teachers, and the atmosphere are things that have always motivated Kaylie to continue attending school. Her favorite classes were geography with Ms. Gillette and science with Mr. Wuchter.
Mr. Hanson is her favorite teacher because he played a large role in helping Kaylie get to where she is today. Kaylie’s best friend, Jadin Braning, has made life better in school and outside of school for Kaylie.
Kaylie shares about Jadin, “She is my number one out of anybody I have met in this school. We’ve helped each other with our school work or dealing with people in the school.”
Aside from her friendship with Jadin, Kaylie is passionate about singing and music. “I’ve been singing in choir since I was in preschool and I’ve loved it ever since.”
After high school, Kaylie plans to attend Red Rocks Community College and also have a job.
“Please find the right people to be friends with. It will take time but trust your intuition - it’s always right. But focus on school and try your best, don’t work so hard and enjoy everything around you,” is the advice Kaylie offers to students attending Gilpin.
She would also like to say, “It’s been real, class of 2023!”
Congratulations, Kaylie, on your upcoming graduation.
