Dear Editor,
We should question Ballot Issue 1A, particularly the organization FGCCC who are heavily involved. They are a non-profit created to provide those in need an avenue to access the community center. Their service is greatly appreciated by myself and the residents of Gilpin County. I’m not criticizing the organization, rather the management/ Board of Directors of this 501(c)(3). I’m questioning why they are so in favor of campaigning and lobbying for the taxation of residents in our county. Their campaign signs and literature violate Colorado campaign finance law and It is questionable at this time if their organization is violating IRS 501(c)(3) regulations. Why would any nonprofit support the county government and be involved with a campaign to promote Ballot Issue 1A? Why would an organization created to help the county residents be promoting a tax on those same people? Is Gilpin County laundering your tax money through a 501(c)(3)?
This raised a red flag for me and it should do the same for you. The more I investigate and look at data, the more I uncover questionable practices. Furthermore their literature they spread throughout government buildings states commercial, residential and other property will be taxed but the ballot text states RESIDENTIAL VALUE. Either FGCCC or the 2 Commissioners, County Manager, Community Center Director and the County Attorney are not speaking the truth. The incompetency of this county government and FGCCC is astounding. This organization and all participants seem to have some risk involved and it might be why they are so in favor of this tax.
501(c)(3)s raise money by fundraising, not by taxation. Be sure you VOTE NO ON 1A. Something strange is going on. I will continue to investigate and follow the money, yes follow the money.
