First spring events begin to sprout

NEDERLAND - This time every year signals the start of so many things.

As spring begins to truly reveal itself, Nederland also comes into bloom, for the shining sun and intoxicating birdsong awaken its spirit, and empower those who work to keep that spirit alive.

Though Eldora’s season has ended and the coffins have been raced, the sudden appearance of painted eggs, grass-filled baskets, and chocolate bunnies heralds a new kind of energy.

Easter was celebrated all across Nederland this past weekend…as was Earth Day, 4/20, and the end of the 2025 ski season. The town exploded with exciting and original events, with something special happening on every corner.

Wild Bear Nature Center continued its annual Earth Day tradition of highlighting local organizations on Saturday, including Boulder Watershed Collective, Environment for the Americas, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

These organizations educated and entertained attendees with hands-on demonstrations that promoted wildlife and nature conservation, such as FeatherFriendly, a kit system for windows and glass doors to help prevent bird collisions.

The town became even more alive on Sunday, April 20, as skiers enjoying the festivities up at Eldora came through and packed Nederland events and businesses.

The Nederland Community Presbyterian Church opened their doors at 9 a.m. for a Sourdough Pancake Breakfast and Easter Egg Hunt. All community members were invited to enjoy delicious homemade pancakes, waffles, sausage, and other breakfast staples, lovingly made and joyfully served by church members and volunteers.

The church’s beautiful meeting room was packed with smiling faces, as Nederland residents of all ages sat together sharing stories, memories, and laughter, while the youngest residents scrambled about the pews in the prayer hall, searching for Easter eggs.

All of Nederland’s churches hosted Easter services, including St. Rita’s Catholic Church and Calvary Chapel, which also hosted a 7 a.m. sunrise service at Barker Reservoir.

Later in the afternoon, the Easter Bunny could be seen hopping around the Caribou Village Shopping Center, visiting various businesses, browsing the socks at Mountain Man Outdoor Store, and enjoying some midday libations at Tres Gringos after a long morning of hiding eggs.

The Easter Bunny was even spotted riding the cow at the Carousel of Happiness, where joy was most definitely not delayed on Sunday, as the famed Nederland location hosted a scavenger hunt, gave away papier mâché eggs, candy, and slap bracelets.

The Carousel also featured some huggable animals from Tails of Two Cities animal sanctuary.

As the sun began to set, the rowdier parties began to emerge. The Nederland General Store threw a 4/20 Party, with a special menu inspired by everyone’s favorite late night munchies: Taco Bell.

In addition to the delicious food, the 4/20 Party also served up great beer and amazing live music from Hundred Pound Housecat, River Spell, and Young Dead.

Easter weekend is just the beginning, as the streets will soon be alive every weekend with art, music, food, and overall Nederland-brand uniqueness and creativity.

The Nederland Farmers Market, the Summer Concert Series, and Ned Jazz & Wine Festival are just a few of the exciting events coming up that strengthen our community every year.

A special thanks to all those dedicated people who volunteer their time to create, organize, and manage these unique events, for they truly make this town and this community shine with greatness.
