Corey Sutton Inc. is a full-service, Aveda-exclusive hair salon located in the heart of Nederland. Founded in 2013, owner Corey Sutton originally owned a salon in Boulder after moving to Colorado in 2007. However, being a Nederland resident, he ultimately decided the right thing to do was to move the salon into his home town.
Alicia Jewell has been an integral part of the salon since December 2021. She started her career in the Aveda Institute in Denver, after which she worked as a salon manager, educator, and lead stylist in a Pearl Street salon for twelve years before finding the opportunity to work at Corey Sutton Inc. last year.
“I have always wanted a career where I can take care of people,” says Alicia, “and hairdressing has given me the opportunity to do just that. This new opportunity to do what I love in a community I care deeply for is a dream come true.”
Corey Sutton always attempts to treat his customers with the utmost respect, and he and Alicia take pride in offering services such as scalp massages and in being able to connect with customers on a personal level. They are both highly trained stylists who keep up with trends and new techniques through ongoing education.
Alicia adds, “I pride myself on clear communication with my clients and genuine desire to take great care of the people in my chair. I specialize in women’s cut and color and strive to always enhance my client’s natural beauty.”
In particular, she notes that her primary responsibility is to take hair health into consideration. “I want every person to leave my space feeling as if they have a newfound ‘hair confidence’ in the way their hair feels and looks. Their hair appointment should feel like a moment of calm and pampering and a true escape from their busy life.”
They both feel that it is also important to give customers a place to come to during their lowest periods, especially during this difficult period of isolation where occasionally hair stylists are among the only people clients see outside of their own households.
Corey says he still gets giddy after 24 years of involvement with Aveda when he is able to try a new color or hairstyle. He and Alicia both understand that connecting with the community through a profession they love is truly special. “I got into this industry because I truly care for people and wanted to have a way to do that while still supporting myself, Alicia says. “I love all things art and beauty related, so this is the perfect combination of things for me.”
