Dear Readers,
The Coal Creek Canyon Fire Protection District announces an Update to the Community Wildfire Protection Plan In August of 2022, the Board of Directors of the Coal Creek Canyon Fire Protection District (CCCFPD) voted unanimously to update the 2008 Community Wildfire Protection Plan for Coal Creek Canyon. A consulting firm has been selected and the update is planned to start in February 2023.
A Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) identifies and prioritizes areas for hazardous fuel reduction treatments and recommends the types and methods of treatment on private, county, state, and Federal land, that will protect one or more at-risk communities and essential infrastructure and recommends measures to reduce structural ignitability throughout the at-risk community. A CWPP addresses issues such as wildfire response, hazard mitigation, community preparedness, evacuation planning and structure protection. The CWPP is developed in the collaborative framework established by the Wildland Fire Leadership Council and agreed to by state and local government, local fire department, residents and other stakeholders, and federal land management agencies managing land in, and adjacent to, the planning area.
Community meetings will be held and announced well in advance to those who have supplied the Community Outreach team with email addresses, to acquire the input of Coal Creek Canyon land and homeowners. A survey will also be distributed, to allow residents several opportunities to make sure their concerns are heard and incorporated into the CWPP.
Coal Creek Canyon residents served by the CCCFPD are invited to join the CWPP INFO email master list, by logging into the CWPP Community Outreach website at https://coalcreekcwpp.org. Please click on the Get Involved tab to join our mailing list. You can also check the interactive map of the 14 communities (Plan Units) designated within the Fire District to find the Plan Unit in which you live. Email us at cwppforCCC@gmail.com if you would like to volunteer as an ambassador to help get the word out to your Plan Unit neighbors.
