Kids hunt Easter eggs in Coal Creek

New bunny, 1,000 eggs mark annual event

COAL CREEK CANYON — The Coal Creek Canyon Improvement Association hosted their Annual Easter egg hunt at the Hall, 31528 Highway 72, on Saturday, March 28.

By noon the Hall was set up with tables, soon full of children decorating their eggs and working on crafts.

They also had games like Pin the Tail on the Rabbit, plus drinks and snacks like cocoa, lemonade, coffee and snacks available for kids and their adults. For a special Easter treat, Ashley Roberts, who has moved to Montana, came back for the event with her two chickens, Speckles and May.

Hall Manager Suzy Schemel organized the event. She said they hid 1,000 plastic eggs full of candy. Five of them were golden eggs. Whoever found those would get a special prize.

At 12:15 p.m., the Easter bunny arrived, played by Will Wilson. He lives in Coal Creek, and this is his first year as the bunny.

At 12:20 p.m., Schemel announced that the egg hunt would start in 10 minutes. At 12:30, the toddlers, ages 2 to 4, started and went to the back room to avoid being trampled by the older kids.

At 12:40 p.m., all the older kids and parents went out the front door and then over to the hill where the eggs were hidden. Kids found their eggs and then brought them to the deck or inside the Hall, where they took the candy from the eggs and put it in their own bags, saving the plastic eggs for next year.
