Dear Editor,

I want to respond to Mr. Douglas’ letter from last week. First, we agree that Mr. Douglas does not support Gail on a personal level. He is a very devoted Democrat, which I fully respect. When he confronted Gail after the forum about her comments, Gail told him yes he did by putting up a really bad candidate for her to run against. What he failed to mention in his text was that he was chair of the Gilpin County Democratic Committee. So given what Gail told him, she was talking to him as the chair. I am sorry that he did not understand that. As a matter of protocol, as the president of a local board, I would be pissed if you were talking about my organization, knew that I was in charge and did not talk to me directly. Maybe next time drawing a picture might be in order. Now, I would not expect Mr. Douglas to support Gail on a personal level or even ask him to as I know his political beliefs and fully support him in those beliefs. Now given that her comment is subjective, we will not know if it is true until the election results are in. We do apologize to Mr. Douglas for the misunderstanding.

It is interesting that he brought up the 2018 election and the issue with the ballot instructions. Just like in 2018, the Democrats are just using this to smear Gail in the election. That is what they did in 2018 and cost Gail the election. Gail did not run the general election in 2018. The commissioners (all Democrats) would not allow her. The mistake was made by the clerk who was, you guessed it, a Democrat. So the Democrat party is using a mistake made by a Democrat to smear someone else. I think Mr. Douglas owes Gail a major public apology for this or does the Democrats just smear and run? Maybe at the park on the 16th and invite Gail to hear it. The party needs to apologize for what they did in 2018 and now. I am sure Commissioner Isenhart can remember the torture that she put Gail through in that election and her advocating that she does not touch the election, if not, we have the documentation of what she did. We have most of the documentation of what happened in 2018.

We need to make sure we have election integrity and transparency in the upcoming election.
