Chief and Kate Dirr: Thanks for decades of service

Posted

Dear Editor,

I would like to take a moment to recognize Rick and Kate Dirr and their decades of service to the community. Their family has been, and continues to be an integral part of who we are in Nederland. For your service, thank you.

I ask the board to consider the appropriateness of public engagement on social media, as well as at public meetings within the region. There was no reason for people that represent us, the residents and business owners of this area, to engage in what appeared to many as personal attacks on the Dirr family. This entire process could have been handled in a private manner, as a personal and/or personnel issue.

Regardless of the reason for the dismissal, or any other actions, I found it in poor taste for our local fire representatives, paid or volunteer, to take part in this online campaign.

It leaves me with a sour taste in my mouth. I hope the board and members will think hard about their public protocol in the future.

[Publishers Note: This is the second letter I have submitted in the last few weeks. Like most of you, I live in the community. Some things have a way of adding up and I feel in many ways that I have to address them as a resident. But not as the newspaper. This is my personal opinion and does not reflect the opinion of the newspaper, which has no opinion.]
