Dear Editor,
The Belvidere Foundation will welcome John Kittridge for a return appearance in its lecture series on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 4 p.m.
The presentation, “Women Miners in the Central City Area,” will take place upstairs at Monte Lobo, 123 Main Street, Central City.
Mining history has traditionally focused on the men who worked in the mines and helped develop Colorado’s historic mining communities. However, women also played significant and often overlooked roles in shaping the history of the Central City area.
In this informal historical presentation, Kittridge will explore the stories of five women whose contributions helped shape the community. He will offer a different perspective on local mining history, sharing lesser-known details and new information about women whose lives and accomplishments deserve greater recognition.
Kittridge’s return to the Belvidere Lecture Series promises an engaging and informative look at an important but frequently neglected chapter of the area’s rich mining heritage.
The public is invited to attend and learn more about the diverse individuals who contributed to the development of Central City and the surrounding mining district.
